Melanism is the development of dark-colored pigmentation in an animal’s skin, feathers, hair, fur and eyes. Typically melanistic animals are black in clours. The word ‘melanism’ is deduced from a Greek word that means black pigment. Melanistic animals are both found in wild and domestic.
